‘This is the best place for him’: Unknown Anzac buried in Pozieres

Thousands of Aussies still lie where they fell, shallow under the Somme dirt. This man was probably an officer – he had a whistle – but despite years of research by the army, and 18 DNA samples taken from prospective relatives, he could not be identified. He is to be buried on Saturday, for the first time, with military honours, down the road from Pozieres alongside two other Anzacs.
