Jack O’Brien ran to catch his plane then flew into a war zone

Around lunchtime on July 17, 2014, Jack O’Brien, 25, from near Parramatta was walking through Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport heading for Gate G3 and flight MH17 to Kuala Lumpur.

His pace quickened. Soon he was running through the terminal. If the plane hadn’t been delayed he might have missed the flight.

He might not have died.
